Nothobranchius taiti, new species

For many years, we have been aware of the existence of a mysterious Nothobranchius fish in eastern Uganda, known only from preserved museum specimens and a field photograph. It was collected by Colin Tait in 1969 and 1971 and its identity has remained a mystery since that time.

It seemed that it represents one of those elusive species, which have proven difficult to re-collect since their discovery. Without recent collections, the taxonomic position of the population remained uncertain. Finally, we could recollect the species with Kaj Østergaard and Gábor Petneházy in June 2017. Examination of the newly collected material confirmed it to be distinct.
